Why don’t the plastic parts on my Moccamaster feel “premium”?

Chemical additives such as bisphenols and phthalates enhance the texture, flexibility, and durability of plastic. While these additives give plastic a more “premium” feel, there has been growing concern about their impact on our health.

All plastics we use are food-safe and BPA, BPS, BPF, and phthalate-free. Our plastics may be perceived as lesser quality because we choose not to use these chemical additives. In reality, they are some of the highest level of food and beverage-safe plastics available.

To ensure the longevity of our removable plastic parts, we do recommend a little extra care. These parts should only be washed with warm, soapy water and never be put in the dishwasher to retain malleability.
