For our automatic drip-stop brew basket models, the KBGT and CDGT, the footplate is not optional and must be used for proper operation. The additional height the footplate adds to the carafe is necessary to assure sufficient contact with the brew basket drip-stop lever. If the footplate is not used, a very slow drain of the brew basket can occur. This can cause the brew basket to overflow or even cause brewing coffee to slowly drizzle down the side of the bracket and make it appear that the tower is leaking.
The footplate is not necessary for the manual-adjust drip-stop brew basket models KBTS, KBT, CDT, and CDT Grand.
