What do the settings on the manual-adjust drip-stop brew basket control?

The manual-adjust drip-stop brew basket has three settings:

• Open (empty circle): Use when brewing seven cups through a full carafe.
• Partially open (half-filled circle): Use when brewing four to six cups. This setting slows the flow through the brew basket to provide additional contact time.
• Closed (X): Stops the flow of coffee from the brew basket. Use this setting after brewing when removing the basket to help prevent drips. Do not use it as a pause-and-pour feature during brewing.
