It is normal for approximately 2–4 ounces of water to remain inside your Moccamaster’s boiling element after brewing.
Moccamaster brewers do not use pumps. Instead, they use natural percolation to move heated water through the brewer and over the coffee grounds. A small amount of water remains in the boiling element as part of this process and does not need to be removed between regular uses.
If you will not be using your brewer for an extended period or will be storing it where temperatures may fall below freezing, empty the remaining water first. Unplug the brewer and allow it to cool completely. Remove the brew basket, brew basket lid, and water-reservoir lid, then carefully turn the brewer upside down over a sink.
